Hi, I found this post while searching for help with JavaScript. I've recently changed browsers from Chrome to Microsoft IE 6. After the change I seem to have a problem with loading JavaScript. Every time I browse page that requires Javascript, my browser does not load and I get a "runtime error javascript.JSException: Unknown name". I cannot seem to find out how to fix it. Any aid is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Apologies for the really pedantic point but I think it's important to get terminology consistent... those singleton object aren't strictly JSON because they contain functions. JSON is data interchange.

From JSON.org: "JSON is a data interchange format which is based on a safe subset of JavaScript. JSON can represent simple or complex structured data. JSON cannot represent functions or expressions. It is strictly data."

There seems to be a gap in the terminology for this technique (as far as I know), and it seems JSON is being pulled into that vacuum. Perhaps we should all adopt that usage, but security considerations make me think otherwise.

What do you think?

The $.ui object is defined as a Javascript object literal, not using JSON. Functions are not a data type supported by JSON.
